Since Michelle covered Valentine’s Day with a good dose of hilarity, I thought I’d come at it from a different tack. I recently read an article from Wait But Why that’s funny, well-written, and approaches the whole relationship experience with a healthy dose of realism. We all know that it’s silly to focus on the romance of a commercialized holiday over the slow-and-steady haul of a lifetime together, but sometimes it’s good to be reminded of why we concentrate on the wrong things—and that it’s not our fault.
Tim Urban reminds us:
[W]hen you choose a life partner, you’re choosing a lot of things, including your parenting partner and someone who will deeply influence your children, your eating companion for about 20,000 meals, your travel companion for about 100 vacations, your primary leisure time and retirement friend, your career therapist, and someone whose day you’ll hear about 18,000 times.
